What Is Neet?
NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is a highly competitive exam in India for admission to undergraduate medical courses in various government and private medical colleges across the country. The exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is held once a year.
NEET was introduced in 2013 by the Medical Council of India (MCI) to replace all other medical entrance exams in India. The aim of introducing NEET was to streamline the medical education system in the country and to bring uniformity in the admission process for medical courses.
NEET is conducted in offline mode and consists of 180 objective-type questions. The exam is divided into three sections - Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). The exam is conducted for a duration of three hours.
Aspirants who wish to appear for NEET must fulfill the eligibility criteria set by the NTA. Aspirants must have completed 17 years of age as on December 31 of the year of admission and must have passed the 10+2 examination or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects from a recognized board.
NEET scores are accepted by various government and private medical colleges across the country for admission to undergraduate medical courses. Aspirants who clear NEET and fulfill the other eligibility criteria can apply for admission to medical colleges of their choice.
